Troost-Ekong allays fears over injury

William Troost-Ekong has said his injury isn’t as bad as first feared after he was stretchered off the pitch in Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Sierra Leone on Thursday night.

The Watford defender copped a groin injury in the 80th minute of the game and was replaced by Leganes’ Kenneth Omeruo.

There were fears the defender could be set for a spell on the sidelines, but Troost-Ekong has moved to douse tension after the injury.

“First game and first win to set us off on the new AFCON 2023 campaign. Thanks for the messages. I will be back soon,” the defender wrote on his Twitter handle.

It remains to be seen whether Troost-Ekong will able to shake off the injury before Nigeria’s next game against Sao Tome and Principe on Monday.

Omeruo, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem and Semi Ajayi are the other centre-backs in the team.
