President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has resigned from office.
Gusau announced his resignation on Thursday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja.
The development followed days of reports that Gusau and several members of the federation’s Executive Committee had resigned, although the reports had initially awaited official confirmation.
Gusau eventually confirmed his resignation during a press conference with journalists in Abuja.
His departure comes against the backdrop of mounting criticism from Nigerians and football administrators over the direction of the country’s football under his leadership.
The NFF administration had faced increasing scrutiny following a series of disappointing results involving Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
