Group tasks Nigerian youths to approach elections with unbiased conscience

A group, Society for Youth and the Downtrodden, SOYD, has called on young people to approach the forth coming 2023 general elections with independent decision and unbiased conscience that is completely devoid of religious sentiments and acrimony as such mistake will worsen the problem of the country.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, President/CEO of SOYD, Comrade Ogwuche Gabriel stated that there was nothing really different and unusual that is worth stressing and putting lives at risk before, during and after the election.

Ogwuche pointed out that the beauty of an election was dependent on the ability of the political parties to field the right people as candidates that aligns with the expectation of the masses.

He said that unfortunately, the reverse was the case in the forth coming Presidential election in Nigeria noting that whilst the political parties was not willing to field the right candidates that have the capacity to transform Nigeria, the electoral umpire had shown clearly in many instances that it lack the courage and ability to organise proper election this year.

In his words, “So, where is the basis for self-inconveniences to the extent of risking your precious lives for the leaders that have no regards for humanity and vulnerable society?

“The action of the political parties is threatening our democracy and have already created confusions among many Nigerians.

“The situation whereby the political parties deliberately fielded candidates whose background was characterised by mixed reactions, rebellion, corruption, inefficiency/gross underutilisation of political wisdom and machineries of government is worrisome and totally condemnable.”

According to him, this could only happen in a fraudulent society where stakeholders decides the outcome of an election instead of the electorates.

Whilst advocating for free, fair and credible 2023 general election in Nigeria, the group’s President urged Nigerians, especially the religious leaders to pray for the unity of the masses as it remains one of the fastest means to make the government accountable to the people.
