Man Utd receives warning over Cristiano Ronaldo Rule

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender, Alan Hutton has warned Manchester United that their new ‘Cristiano Ronaldo rule’ might be difficult to implement at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United have made a new rule where no player in the present squad would be paid over £200,000 per week salary.

The rule that was introduced in order to avoid dressing room jealousy between teammates because of wage differences.

Man United goalkeeper David De Gea is set to be impacted by the rule soon as he is currently on a deal that sees him earn £375,000 per week salary.

De Gea’s contract will expire next summer, and the Spaniard has been offered a deal with a significantly lower salary.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton believes it would be hard for Man United to implement the ‘Ronaldo rule’ because every player needs to buy into it.

Hutton said, “I think it just keeps a cap on it, so it doesn’t get out of control. I understand how changing rooms work. If you’re one of the main players and you see somebody else who isn’t playing as much getting a better wage than you, there is going to come a time where conflict arises.”

He added, “Everybody has to buy into it and what happens to the players that are over that budget at this moment in time? There are a whole lot of stipulations that come along with it. I know clubs that already do that, the likes of Tottenham, they rarely go outside that. It’s up to the club to implement it, but it’s obviously difficult to do. “
