Man City’s 3-1 win over Copenhagen helps EPL’s chase for five slots

Manchester City’s 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday night, puts the Premier League in line for a fifth slot in next season’s competition.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 10th minute, before an Ederson error allowed Magnus Mattsson to equalise.

But Bernardo Silva struck in added time of the first half to restore their lead.

Phil Foden rounded off scoring in the 92nd minute to move City closer to the quarter-finals.

Man City’s victory moved England into second, behind Italy, in the UEFA coefficient rankings, for the extra Champions League place next season.

RB Leipzig’s defeat to Real Madrid contributed to Germany dropping to third, with Spain in fourth.
