Ishaku raises alarm over plots to loot vehicles, govt property as parting gifts

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has warned public servants, especially top government functionaries against disappearing with government vehicles and properties.

The governor, who gave the warning via a circular issued out to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, said any public servants caught indulging in such acts would not be spared.

According to reports, some top government functionaries have mapped out plans to cart away government vehicles and properties as parting gift.

Ishaku, who claimed to be aware of the ongoing plans, vowed to work round the clock to frustrate such greedy government officials from actualizing their dreams.

The circular which came from the governor through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), was signed by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Ibrahim Dan’Azumi.

The circular reads, “it has come to the attention of government that some public office holders are planning to go with the utility vehicles allocated to their MDAs as parting gift without express approval or formal release letter from the office of the SSG of the state as has been the normal procedure and practice.”

He said the governor “has directed that no government official is permitted to tamper or move any utility vehicle, including the Toyota Hilux recently allocated to them.

“Any of the public officials that violated the above directives will be confronted with the long arm of the law.

“Consequently, any public office holder or senior government functionary that has contravened or is planning to go against these directives, is advised to desist forthwith because the government will use all legal means to retrieve its property.”
