Court sentences man to 5yrs imprisonment for theft, burglary

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday, sentenced a 33-year-old man, Rasheed Usman to five years imprisonment for breaking into a house to steal plasma Television and other valuable items valued N300,000.

The Police charged the Usman, whose address was not provided with stealing, burglary and malicious damage, which he had pleaded guilty to the charges.

In her ruling, Mrs A O. Adeyemi, sentenced the convicts to five years imprisonment without any option of fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the convicts committed the offences on March 1 at about 7.00 p.m.at Araromi, Obasanjo area, Ota.

Adaraloye said that the convict broke into the house of the complainant, Obasi Peter, and stole a plasma television and other valuable items valued at N300, 000.

He added that the convict also damaged the window and burglary of the complainant.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d), 390 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
