Benue journalists task Governor-elect on good governance

The Conference of Benue Journalists (CBJ) has tasked the state governor-elect, Rev. Fr  Hyacinth Alia to work toward improving the living condition of the people through good governance.

The group said this in a statement on Wednesday signed by its President, Mr Emmanuel Anule in Abuja.Anule congratulated Alia and his deputy,  Mr Sam Ode on their victory at the poll, saying they were elected at a time the state was in  dire need of purposeful, sincere, and committed leadership.

“Your well-deserved victory bestows a degree of trust in your capacity to lead Benue in a most sincere, genuine, purposeful, and committed manner while striving to engender speedy economic growth and the wellbeing of our people.

“We expect you to swing into action immediately after your inauguration on May 29 in tackling the lingering issues of non payment of salaries/pensions.

“Decaying infrastructure,  insecurity, and other frontline challenges that have conspired to slow down the wheel of progress in our dear state,” he said.

Anule also challenged the governor-elect to work with his deputy toward uniting the people of state, irrespective of their political affiliations.

This, according to the association was in order to create a peaceful atmosphere that would galvanise the expected good governance during their tenure.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  had declared Alia as the winner of the March 18 governorship poll and the Governor-Elect for the state.

The Catholic priest won 473,933 votes to defeat his closest rival and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Titus Uba, who scored 223,913.The CBJ which is a group of journalists from Benue and practicing in Abuja.
