‘We’re sorting 1973 files’ – Kano official gives update on payment of gratuities, death benefits

Executive Chairman Kano State Pension Funds Trustees, Habu Muhammad Fagge, has said that the agency is sorting files going as far back as 1973 preparatory to commencing payment of approved N6 billion death benefits and gratuities.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had last week assured that his government has set aside N6 billion to settle death benefits and gratuities of lower cadre officers who long ago retired from service.

The governor said that the government had already scheduled 5,500 retirees that would benefit from the dedicated amount.

However Fagge said the pension office is sorting out hundreds of files before commencing payment.

He added that beneficiaries include retirees from the 44 local government areas and state pensioners.

Fagge noted that he foresees an economic boom in the state after the payment of the gratuities.

“Let me assure that as soon as we complete all necessary verification and listing the real beneficiaries, payments will commence,” he added.
