Abia South Senator, Eyinnaya Abaribe on Wednesday declared that Nigeria is not under dictatorship.
Abaribe made the declaration while clashing with Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele on the floor of the Senate over a bill.
The former Senate Chief Whip had proposed a bill for the immortalization of Humphrey Nwosu and June 12.
But, Bamidele flagged the bill because it came under Order 38.
Abaribe faulted Bamidele, stressing that senators should be allowed to make personal explanations regarding proposed bills.
According to Abaribe: “Even if the Senate leader says that it doesn’t follow, by the fact that a senator wants to make a personal explanation, you must give that senator a chance to make that personal explanation, we are not under a dictatorship.”
Reacting, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin said: “We are all experienced senators here and grounded in our rules and I refer you to order 42 ounces again.
“When we came this morning, you approached me with respect to bring forth this motion under order 41 and 51, you never told me you were bringing it under order 52.
“When it came under Order 41 and 51, it was defeated, now you changed your mind to bring it under order 52.
