Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has once again proven her dominance in Nollywood as her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, sets a new benchmark in the Nigerian film industry.
The highly anticipated movie raked in an astounding N45 million on its opening day, solidifying Akindele’s reputation as a box office queen.
The Nigerian Box Office, which disclosed this rating via its official handle on X, stated that ELJ opened with over 9,000 admissions, tagging the movie as the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film.
This, it noted, surpassed that of her previous movie, A Tribe Called Judah, which had 8,870.
The post reads, “Everybody Loves Jenifa shattered box office records yesterday. It had the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film with ₦45.2M! ELJ drew 9,409 admissions, surpassing ATCJ’s 8,870 despite not screening at Genesis & missing most of the day at Silverbird Cinemas.”
“All of these are outside of the advanced screening. Please note that the final figures could be slightly more.”
‘Everybody loves Jenifa’, released on cinemas on Friday, December 13, features some of Nollywood stars, including Nancy Isime, Bisola Aiyeola, Stan Nze, among others.
Recall that the talented actress achieved a historic milestone last year with her blockbuster movie, A Tribe Called Judah.
Premiered on December 15, 2023, the film wrapped up its run in Nigerian cinemas with an impressive total gross of N1.4 billion, marking it as the first Nollywood production to cross the N1 billion mark at the box office.
