…jettison their candidature

A PDP Chieftain,Alhaji Ibrahim Audu has called on the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party to as a matter of urgency to jettison the candidature of two of it’s aspirant vying for position of House of Representative, Federal constituency, Askira Uba, Hawul. Borno state under Peoples Democratic Party for bridging the provision of the party regulations and guidelines for primary elections 2022, of Section 6 (1).

which stated that every aspirant intending to vie for any political position must be screened and not only that, the screening must be done in person and not in Proxy.
The candidates are Dr. Midala Usman Balami and Dr. Usman Emmanuel Bassi, both candidate are vying for position of House of Representative, Federal constituency, Askira UBA, Hawul, Borno state under Peoples Democratic Party.

According to the petitioner, Ibrahim Audu, said that Dr. Midala Usman Balami and Dr. Usman Emmanuel Bassi were not in attendance of all the candidates who were screened on the 28th day of April, 2022.

“The petitioner revealed that the card carrying candidate, Dr. Midala Usman Balami who is vying for a political position of House of Representative Federal constituency, Askira Uba, Hawul. Borno state under Peoples Democratic Party, is  at the same time, an employee of the United Nations till date without  resigning  from his primary job, which contravenes the provisions Section”.

In same vein, Dr. Usman Emmanuel Bassi, is also a candidate vying for a political position of House of Representative, Federal constituency, Askira UBA, Hawul, Borno state under Peoples Democratic Party and at the same time, an employee with Nile University, Abuja till date without resigning, knowing fully well that the primary elections is slated for the 20th day of May, 2022 which contravenes the provision of Section 66 sub 1 (F) of Constitution Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), which states that:

“No person shall be qualified for election to the Senate or the House of Representative if he is employed in the public service of the federation or of any state and has not resigned, withdrawn or retired from such employment thirty (30) days before the date of election”

“Article 1 of the 5th schedule of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) emphatically stressed a deviation from conflict of personal and public interest which states as thus: “A Public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts with his duties and responsibilities.”

In furtherance to the foregoing, Article 2 of the same schedule particularly, part A, states that: “Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing paragraph, a public officer shall not receive or be paid the emolument of any public office at the same time as he receives or is paid the emolument of any other public office.”

“In the light of the above disobedience and outright breach of the Constitution of Nigeria, I am compelled to petition Dr. Usman Emmanuel Bassi and Dr. Midala Usman Balami for undemocratic attitude displayed”.

While reaffirming my unwavering commitment and loyalty to this great party of ours and its noble objectives, I call on this noble party to jettison the candidature of Dr. Usman Emmanuel Bassi and Dr. Midala Usman Balami and expunge their name from the list of screened candidates to partake in the forthcoming primary elections as having not complied with the provisions of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended.
