Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that William Saliba will not be part of his team for their crunch Premier League tie against Newcastle at the weekend.
He said the defender, who emerged as the Gunners’ best defender this season, is yet to return to training.
Also, he revealed that Saliba’s defence partner this season, Gabriel, is a doubt for the game after he was brought off injured against Chelsea on Tuesday.
Arsenal take on Newcastle on Sunday, and speaking ahead of the match, Arteta said of Gabriel: “We will have to see tomorrow how he is, but he could not finish the game, so that was a big sign. We’ll have to see tomorrow.”
As for Saliba, he remarked: “Not a lot of progress. He’s feeling better every day, but he’s not been able to have any activity around the first team, so we don’t expect him to be with us.”
