Taraba community motorists, residents bemoan bad road

Residents and motorists in Lissam, the administrative headquarters of the Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State, have lamented the deplorable state of the only road leading to the council from the nearby Takum local government.

The state of the roads has become a serious challenge for motorists, motorcyclists and residents.

Anytime it rains, the road gets flooded, making it difficult for cars, buses and motorcycles to ply, making it impossible to transport farm produce to the market in Takum.

Residents of the community, who recently bared their minds to our correspondent, complained bitterly that the bad road is affecting their businesses and livelihood in different ways.

A resident, Ande Thomas, said the lack of a motorable road, especially during the rainy season, has caused a lot of hardships to the people in the council.

According to him, the journey of less than 30 minutes from Takum to the community now takes over an hour.

Aligning his weight to that of Thomas, another resident of the community who spoke with Daily Post, said the road is only manageable during the dry season.

Claiming to have been plying the road for over three years, Suleiman Nasiru, said “this very road has always given us sleepless nights.”

A top government functionary from the council, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said each time he travels home from Jalingo, the state capital, he does not use his car but prefers his motorcycle.

While calling on the member of the council in the state House of Assembly to endeavour to herald the attention of his colleagues in the House to the bad state of the road, the need for those at the federal level as well as those occupying critical positions in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to contribute to the growth of the community, the people believed, can no longer be overemphasized.
