The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Taraba State has described as unfortunate the state governor’s decision to celebrate while the state is on fire.
Citing the recent boat mishap and the ongoing security challenges bedevilling the state, the APC expressed sadness over the Governor’s celebration of his daughter’s graduation from Law school.
The Governor, according to the APC, was lavishing the state’s resources on a celebration that will not impact positively on the state.
Speaking through Chairman, Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, the APC expressed sadness over the Governor’s inability to commiserate with the families of the recent boat mishap in the state.
El-Sudi who made the position of the party known on Friday via a statement, in Jalingo, said such action amounts to insensitivity on the part of the Governor to the plights of the people.
“When the state is still mourning the death of those involved in the recent boat mishap in Karim Lamido, coupled with the high cases of kidnapping across the state, the governor, instead of addressing the situation, is busy going about celebrating.”
“Within the span of two weeks, over 15 people were kidnapped across the state, including a traditional ruler and over 80 persons were involved in a boat mishap in Karim Lamido local government area of the state.”
“It is unfortunate that as Tarabians are still mourning with the families of the departed souls, the governor and his executive members threw a party in Abuja inviting top politicians to celebrate his daughter’s graduation.” He lamented.
El Sudi described the Governor’s action as an unnecessary waste of public funds, adding that “the governor’s decision to embark on a jamboree even as many persons lost their lives in the state as a result of the boat mishap is insensitive and unfortunate.
In a swift reaction, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, denied the allegations levelled against the governor by the APC.
He said the Governor, “was the first respondent when the incident happened.
“The governor did not only send condolences but sent a high-powered delegation led by the deputy governor to condole the families of the victims.”
Apart from sending a high-powered delegate, the governor, “also set up a committee to investigate the immediate cause of the incident and also to ensure there is no future recurrence.”
