Supreme Court upholds Hope Uzodimma’s re-election as Imo state Governor

The Supreme Court, on Friday, upheld the governorship election in State, affirming Hope Uzodimma’s position as governor for a second term.

A five-member panel of the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyawu, who challenged the outcome of the election.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, the court resolved all the issues raised in the appeal against the appellants, ruling that the appeal lacked merit and dismissing it accordingly.

The panel unanimously agreed that the appeal was without merit and all the issues were resolved in favour of the governor.

The court also dismissed the appeal of the Labour Party and its candidate, Senator Athan Achonu for lacking merit.
