Liverpool hero, Steve Nicol, has criticised Lisandro Martinez, claiming the Manchester United defender is ‘getting away with it’.
Martinez has become an important member of the Erik ten Hag team since joining from Ajax over the summer.
The Argentina International has been criticised by several pundits, who question whether his height would be a problem in the English top-flight.
Nicol has doubts over Martinez, saying he has been ‘getting away with it’ during his time at Old Trafford.
“Martinez was up for the game, he was going through tackles, and all this,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.
“Now fortunately for him, since then he has been getting away with a lot of stuff.
“His biggest problem is not that he does not read the game. He has got a lovely left-peg, but his two problems are that he is too small and he over-commits.
“He has been getting away with it so far, with the over-committing.”
Martinez has helped Manchester United climb to fifth position in the Premier League, and widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the league at the moment.
Erik ten Hag has put his faith in the combination of Martinez and Raphael Varane, following a very poor start to the season for Harry Maguire and the two central defenders have not failed until Varane’s injury.
