Prof Adamu Appointed acting VC of University of Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Mathew Adamu as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.

Until his appointment, Adamu was from the Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi.

He is a fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria and member of the Knight of St. Mulumba (KSM),

The appointment, announced in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel O. Enitan, is for a period of three months with effect from Monday, August 11, 2025.

According to the ministry, Adamu is tasked with supporting the Governing Council to conclude the ongoing process for the appointment of a substantive vice-chancellor in line with statutory provisions and extant guidelines.

He is the second Acting Vice Chancellor appointed by the Federal Government since Prof Aisha Maikudi was sacked.

Professor Lar Patricia Manko had been appointed acting VC for a non-renewable six-month period.
