Police uncover plot to hold violent protest in Anambra over scarcity of Naira notes

Anambra State Police Command says it has uncovered plans by mischief makers to hide behind the scarcity of the new naira notes to hold a protest in Anambra.

The Command warned that it will not spare such mischievous moves and deployed human and operational resources to guarantee the safety of life in the state.

The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga stated this in a press release made available to our correspondent in Awka on Wednesday.

He said: “Anambra State Police Command today 8/2/2023 has uncovered plans by some group of persons to take advantage of the new Naira notes scarcity to unleash violence in some parts of the State.

“The Command has described the scarcity as not peculiar to Anambra State alone and noted that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to address the situation.

“We warn mischief makers to desist from it, as police is ready to ensure the optimal deployment of human and operational resources towards guaranteeing safety and security in the state.

“The Command hereby warns these groups/persons to shelve their planned violence or have the full weight of the law to contend with.”

Ikenga said the police and other security agencies in the state have recently held confidence-building patrols, and will not spare anyone in guaranteeing the safety of the people.

The Command enjoined Anambra indigenes and residents not to panic while urging law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful duties without any fear of harassment or intimidation.
