Osun Revenue: Desist from fraudulent acts

Acting Chairman, Osun Internal Revenue Service, OIRS, Abiodun Olaitan has warned revenue consultants working with the state government to desist from all forms of fraudulent acts.

Olaitain gave this warning while clarifying the stand of OIRS and the state government on the news making the rounds about one of the revenue consultants for the State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation directing that money should be paid into his personal account.

Olaitan also revealed that the OIRS as an agency had instructed all taxpayers in the state not to pay cash to any individual purported to be collecting money on behalf of the Osun State government.

“The OIRS as an agency on several occasions went on air on both radio and television, as well as other conventional and non conventional media houses to sensitize and instruct that all taxpayers in the state should not to pay cash to any individual purported to be collecting money on behalf of Osun State government.

“We have also warned and equally directed that no OIRS staff or members of staff of other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government should do same.

“As an alternative, any person or organisation willing to make any payment can come straight to the OIRS headquarters for further enquiries,” he said.

Recall that last week, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke directed an overhaul of the revenue collection protocol as it affects the Ministry of Environment and other agencies.

His directive came on the reports of misconduct by some revenue consultants attached to the Ministry of Environment.

The Governor had, while directing the immediate stoppage of the inherited collection model in the Ministry of Environment, mandated that all revenue consultants enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government.
