Man docked for alleged breach of peace

A 32-year-old man, Azeez Rasheed, on Tuesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged breach of peace.

Rasheed, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and unlawful damage.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan.30 at 6:00p.m. at a building site in Obada Estate in Magbon area of Lagos.

Okuoimose alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that breached public peace, when he beat-up Oseni Idris and Oladele Peter, the complainants at the site.

“The defendant unlawfully damaged the Itel 5 phone of Oladele Peter during the fight,” the prosecutor said.

Okuoimose said that the case was reported to the police and the defendant was arrested.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 168 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adefioye said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until March 7 for mention.
