The Kogi East APC Legacy Group has commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, for what it described as the swift commencement of critical road and education projects contained in its recent development memorandum to the state government.
The group said the invitation for tenders for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in Ibaji and Bassa, alongside the planned construction and upgrading of nine secondary schools across the nine local government areas of Kogi East, demonstrated that the Ododo administration was responding to the development concerns of stakeholders in the district.
The group’s spokesperson, Dr Johnson Musa, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja yesterday.
It would be recalled that the Kogi East APC Legacy Group recently submitted a comprehensive memorandum to Governor Ododo, identifying roads, education, electricity, healthcare, water supply and security as priority areas requiring urgent government attention.
Musa said the latest developments showed that some of the issues raised in the memorandum had moved beyond discussions into the formal procurement and implementation process.
Ibaji, Bassa Roads
According to him, the Kogi State Ministry of Works has invited tenders for the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across the state, including two major corridors in Kogi East highlighted in the group’s memorandum.
They are the 37-kilometre Idah–Onyedega Road in Ibaji and the 13-kilometre Odenyi–Oguma–Sheria Road in Bassa. The deadline for submission of bids is September 17, 2026.
Musa said the two roads were strategically important to the economic development of the communities they serve, particularly because of the volume of agricultural and commercial activities along the corridors.
He noted that their completion would improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of farm produce, reduce transportation costs and enhance access to markets, healthcare and other essential services.
“We thank Governor Ododo for listening and for acting with speed. These roads and schools were among the needs we placed before him. Their appearance for construction shows a government that keeps faith with its people,” Musa said.
He added that the group would continue to monitor the projects and engage constructively with the government to ensure their timely completion.
9 Secondary Schools Across Kogi East
The group also welcomed the state Ministry of Education’s announcement on the construction and upgrading of 28 secondary schools across the 21 local government areas of the state under the World Bank-assisted AGILE programme.
Musa said nine of the beneficiary schools were located in Kogi East, with one project in each of the district’s nine local government areas.
The projects include the upgrading of UBE Junior Secondary School, Enjema, Ankpa, to a senior secondary school; construction of Government Science Secondary School, Oguma, Bassa; expansion of UBE Junior Secondary School, Efakwu Egume, Dekina; and construction of Government Secondary School, Onyedega, Ibaji.
Others are the construction of Idah Secondary Commercial College, Idah; expansion of UBE Junior Secondary School, Odolu, Igalamela-Odolu; upgrading of UBE Junior Secondary School, Agojeju, Ofu, to a senior secondary school; construction of Ukoh Community Secondary School, Olamaboro; and construction of Government Science Secondary School, Ogodu, Omala.
The group described the distribution as significant, saying every local government in Kogi East had been captured in the intervention.
It said the projects would expand access to quality secondary education, improve learning infrastructure and create better opportunities for young people across the district.
‘Ododo Is Listening, Acting With Speed’
Musa also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting initiatives and interventions that have enabled development projects to reach the state.
“We also commend Mr President for the support that makes such projects possible. Kogi East stands firmly behind this administration,” he said.
The group maintained that equitable distribution of public investment should remain a central principle of governance, stressing that every community in Kogi East deserved a fair share of government attention and development.
Other Priorities
While expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded, the APC Legacy Group urged the government to sustain the momentum on other issues contained in its memorandum.
These, it said, include the proposed national electric transmission substation, rural water supply schemes, revitalisation of general hospitals, improved security architecture, additional road corridors and greater development of the Ankpa coal and Ibaji oil resources.
The group pledged continued constructive engagement with the government and relevant stakeholders to advance the interests of the people of Kogi East.
It further reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu, Governor Ododo and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying sustained cooperation between the people and government would accelerate development across Kogi East and the state.
