“I only took a few days to rest” — Finance minister Wale Edun back in Nigeria, spotted at Abuja event

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, was sighted on Sunday in Abuja while attending an official event.

Recall that Sahara Reporters had reported that Edun was sick before the presidency confirmed the minister’s unavailability, saying he was “indisposed.” However, we can now report to you that Mr. Edun is back in the country and has already returned to his official duties.

Edun was recently sighted at the venue of a business event organised by a government corporation as part of strategic engagements with a foreign delegation exploring investment opportunities in the country.

In the video, which was posted on X by President Bola Tinubu’s spokesman, Sunday Dare, with the caption: “Minister Wale Edun. Today. Art Gallery.”

The video showed the minister interacting with delegates and senior government officials at the event, signalling his return to active service.

Edun was heard saying that he only took a few days off to rest. “I got a few days off to rest, I can’t stay long in the house, so I’m coming to enjoy this beautiful exhibition.” “I’m happy to see Nigerian artists on display, telling their story to the world.”

According to reports last week, it was said that Edun was flown abroad after his medical condition became worse and that President Tinubu was already making plans to replace him.

However, the presidency quickly released a statement, dismissing the report as fake. The Presidency added that the minister was hale and hearty, adding that there were no plans to replace him.

Edun was appointed as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on August 16, 2023. He was sworn in on 21 August 2023.
