A group, Mbegir Humanitarian Initiative, is set to organize a street walk in support of women suffering from breast cancer in Nasarawa State.
The Initiative made this known via a statement issued by its chief executive officer, Rahab Elisha, in Lafia, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the group, unhappy with the alarming increase in the cases of breast cancer that poses a threat to the lives of women, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Women Forum Fighting Against Cancer, has concluded plans to stage street walk campaigns in Lafia, Keffi and Wamba, with the exercise billed to commence in Lafia on Thursday, 13th July, 2023.
CEO of the group, said her organization was registered in Nasarawa State and engages in advancing the cause of women in tackling socio-cultural issues affecting them, with focus on education, women related medical issues and projection of women social values, aimed at increasing life expectancy and productivity for women in order to meet up with the sustainable development goals in the state.
As part of activities marking the event, 150 women suffering from breast cancer will participate in breast cancer street walk campaign from the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic to the Government House, where they will seek audience with Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The street walks are planned to create massive public awareness on the dangers of breast cancer and to encourage early detection of the disease thereby saving lives.
“We are disturbed on the alarming increase in the case of breast cancer that is threatening the lives of women. We also commend the efforts of the Nasarawa State government in tackling this killer disease and we are determined to key into this laudable Initiative,” Rahab Elisha stated.
She explained that her organization is poised to confront breast cancer frontally, with the street walk as one of the several initiatives towards creating awareness and bringing succour to women suffering from breast cancer.
