House of Reps summons Wike, DSS DG, FCT CP over rising insecurity in Abuja

The House of Representatives has summoned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with Olatunji Disu, FCT Commissioner of Police, and Adeola Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), over rising insecurity in Abuja.

The decision follows a motion raised by Ismail Dabo, a lawmaker from Bauchi state, after his aide, Nimah Sulaiman, was kidnapped and murdered by ‘one chance’ operators at Bannex junction in Wuse 2 on October 17.

Dabo expressed concern over the escalating rate of abductions and criminal activity in both the suburbs and the city centre, blaming the use of unregistered and unpainted taxis for facilitating these crimes.

He stressed the need for immediate government action to restore safety to the nation’s capital, which has become increasingly unsafe for residents.

“This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through our community, confirming the escalating insecurity in the FCT. It is our collective responsibility as lawmakers to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he said.

The House adopted the motion, calling for the public officials to appear before the committees on FCT, police affairs, and national security and intelligence to address the security crisis.
