He deserves it – Galtier speaks on Neymar’s red card in 2-1 win over Strasbourg

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has admitted that Neymar’s second yellow card was deserving after the Brazil international was sent off during their 2-1 win over Strasbourg on Wednesday night.

PSG managed to beat 19th-placed Strasbourg in their first game after the 2022 World Cup with Marquinhos putting the home side in front in the 14th minute.

Marquinhos, however, cancelled out his goal with an unfortunate own goal in the 51st minute.

Neymar was sent off in the 62nd minute after receiving a second booking for simulation, having picked up the first for a foul on Adrien Thomasson.

Commenting on Neymar’s red card during his post match press conference, Galtier said the Brazilian deserved the yellow for simulation but claimed that the first yellow was too harsh.

“As much as I can understand the simulation, he deserves the yellow [card], a few minutes before he suffers a bad foul and his first yellow is very severe compared to the number of fouls suffered by Ney,” he said.

“I regret that the excess of commitment was not sanctioned more harshly for certain players. It could have generated a little frustration for Ney.”
