Newly signed Chelsea star, Enzo Fernandez had threatened to return to Argentina and never play for Benfica again after it emerged the Portuguese side was blocking him from joining Chelsea.
The South American warned the club he would not play for them again unless he gets his move to Chelsea.
Chelsea succeeded in bringing in the 22-year-old in the final hours of the January transfer window.
He was signed for a British record £106 million deal for the Argentina international.
The Times reports that the Portuguese giants were left angered by the Blues’ conduct during talks.
Benfica then told the 22-year-old to reject a move to Stamford Bridge, warning him the club was in ‘turmoil’ and are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification.
But the Argentine World Cup winner was desperate to make the move to Stamford Bridge and according to Record, threatened the club that he would not play again and would return to Argentina.
The midfielder did just that early in the January window after Chelsea’s initial interest emerged. Fernandez defied his club by returning to his homeland and missing training over the New Year period.
