Fela’s first child, Yeni Kuti, shares her hot take on heated online clash between Wizkid and Seun Kuti

Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s first child, Yeni Kuti, has reacted to the heated online exchange between Grammy Award winner Wizkid and her brother, Seun Kuti, which has dominated conversations on Nigerian social media in recent days.

The controversy began after Seun Kuti, the last-born son of the late Afrobeat legend, went live on Instagram for several days, where he openly attacked Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, before turning his criticism on Wizkid himself. During the sessions, Seun described Wizkid FC as a useless fan base and berated their parents for comparing Wizkid to his late father and tagging the singer as the “new Fela.”

Seun also questioned the depth of Wizkid’s music, claiming it lacked spirituality, and insisted that he did not owe any regard to Wizkid FC, whom he repeatedly dismissed in harsh terms.

Wizkid eventually responded online, firing back at Seun Kuti with strong words. The singer referred to Seun as a hungry man and a fool at 40, comments that further escalated the feud. Wizkid also stirred more controversy when he stated that he was bigger than Fela Kuti, a remark that sparked outrage and intense debate across social media platforms.

Amid the growing tension, Yeni Kuti addressed the situation in a statement shared by journalist Temilola Sobola. Distancing herself from the insults exchanged by both sides, she called for restraint and unity.

“Wizkid is my padi. When two giants fight, the grass suffers,” Yeni said. “I refuse to enter this discussion because of some of the insults they are hurling. I love Wizkid a lot, and we have really come a long way together. I remember when he started; he was a backup singer at the shrine during Felabration. There is no way I can’t like him.”

She added that she wished the situation had been addressed earlier to prevent it from escalating, urging both parties to reconcile.

“I wish he had quickly put a stop to it at the beginning, but now let us mend fences. We are one people. Fela has been dead for 27 years, and for people to still be mentioning his name means he was truly great. Let those who are alive fight their battles and let him rest,” Yeni Kuti concluded.

Her comments have since drawn praise from many Nigerians, with social media users commending her calm tone and call for peace amid the ongoing feud.
