Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to the development of rural communities in the nations capital, Abuja, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda must find concrete expressions in the people.
The minister made the commitment on Friday while inspecting the ongoing construction of the 11-kilometre Yangoji-Sukuku Ebo-Road and Kwali Unity Bank Road in Kwali Area Council of the territory.
He said; “I feel delighted that we are taking development to rural areas. For me, it is very important to ensure that while actualising the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda President Bola Tinubu, rural communities also benefit from the dividend of democracy.
“The rural areas are part of the FCT and should enjoy good governance and the dividend of democracy”.
While restating his determination the ensure an even spread of development across urban and rural areas, the minister said rural development would help stem the rising wave of rural-urban migration.
“You need to give them infrastructure to be able to develop their communities. Providing infrastructure, particularly roads, is key to the development of communities so that they can feel the impact of governance,” he added.
While he urged the contractor, Gilmor Engineering Ltd, to speed up work on the project to ensure that timelines are met, Wike also called on the council Chairman to effectively monitor the execution of the project and not rely on reports by the bureaucracy
