Every government needs surveyors for mapping of its domain – Governor Fayemi

Ekiti State Government has assured of its readiness to provide an enabling environment for surveyors to thrive and practise their profession without interference.

Governor Kayode Fayemi gave the assurance on Tuesday while declaring open the 56th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors open.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, the Governor said every responsible government needs the contributions of surveyors to succeed as the data they hold is important for the effective implementation of development plans.

Dr Fayemi stressed that any government that deserves to achieve maximum success in its policies through good governance to the admiration of the people it governs must put into consideration the mapping of its domain.

The Governor applauded the uniqueness and relevance of surveying and geo-information saying that no physical development project could be well accomplished without accurate geo-information of the area with mapping and planning.

He informed the gathering that the state government has provided the state-of-the-art equipment to the state’s Office of the Surveyor General having considered the rate of technological advancement in the profession.

To improve the staff strength of the Office of the Surveyor General, the governor has deemed it necessary to recruit 5 professional Surveyors, 5 technologies, 5 assistant technical officers and 10 trained men.

The National President of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Dr. Kayode Oluwamotemi, said the country stands to reap enough benefits if it works assiduously on opening up land mass to investment in various areas.

In his address, the Chairman of Ekiti State Branch of the Institution of Surveyors, Mr. Timothy Oladayo Ajala, expressed the institution’s happiness to Governor Fayemi for granting the upgrade of the position of Surveyor General to the equivalent of Permanent Secretary.

This, he said, will smoothen and speed up an effective communication network between the Surveyors in the state and the government.
