An effervescence talk from former Chelsea ace Eden Hazard helped midfielder, Romeo Lavia decide to snub Liverpool and join the Blues.
Lavia was at the centre of one of this summer’s most intense transfer tug of wars which eventually saw Chelsea emerge victorious.
Chelsea’s Premier League rival Liverpool appeared to have been the favourites to sign Lavia but struggled to agree on a fee with Southampton and saw three different offers rejected.
Chelsea, who first registered their interest in the 19-year-old back in January, were thought to have been preoccupied with their pursuit of Moises Caicedo but pounced on Liverpool’s dithering to secure Lavia’s signature.
With the two Premier League giants vying for Lavia’s services, the Belgium international took his time to weigh up his, although Chelsea was always his No.1 choice.
But a phone call from his compatriot Hazard, who extolled the virtues of Chelsea as well as living in London, helped seal the deal, according to The Athletic.
Lavia will hope to feature for Chelsea when they take on Luton Town in a Premier League tie on Friday after he was not included in the squad that lost against West Ham United last weekend.
