‘Decorating The CGI With His Full Rank Will Bring Sanity To The System’–Amb. Hussaini Coomassie

…says decorating Acting CG of Immigration, Mr Isah Jere Idris will bring sanity to the agency.

A former immigration officer and public analyst Amb. Hussaini Coomassie has congratulated the newly promoted Senior Immigration officers and that of other Paramilitary Agencies under Interior Ministry on their promotions to the next rank.

Amb Coomassie who’s a United Nations SDG Ambassador and Global vice Chairman, Advocacy For Good Governance and Social Justice Network also adviced President Mohammedu Buhari and the ministry responsible for the appointment and confirmation of Comptroller General to as a matter of urgency, facilitate his confirmation & decoration for better service delivery.

On the newly promoted officers, Dr Coomassie advised that qualifications and merit should be given a priority in the fourth coming redesignation/postings of newly promoted officers. Experienced, talented & hardworking DCGs should be appointed to head Passport, Border Management & Operations Directorates, in order to clear off passport backlogs & sanitise our porous International Borders, he added.

He said: “I want to congratulate the newly promoted officers and urge them to be good Ambassadors of the Service and patriotic Nigerians. I’m also advising the Comptroller General of Immigration to take this advantage in reshuffling his cabinet and making sure postings are made according to professionalism and definitely not on godfatherism. On the issue of newly created border Commands/FoB that are causing serious misunderstanding between State Comptrollers & that of Border Commands, which is affecting the cordial relationship between the Service & host States, Mr Jere should as a matter of National interest create a committee to look into the affairs of affected States, if possible reverse them back to their original formations.

“Skillful & Hardworking DCGs should be appointed to head Passports & Operations Directorates respectively, to be able to change the narratives he insists. Lot’s of complaints from well meaning NIGERIANS regarding passport procurement across the country is worrisome, the NIMC/IRIS dichotomy should be properly tackled and if possible engage the leadership of NIMC for a permanent solution to the existing problems,” he stated.

In a related development, Ambassador Coomassie said he’s worried on the delay of decorating the Ag. Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr Isah Jere Idris, whose tenure has just been extended by President Mohammadu Buhari for one more year after serving 7 months as acting CGI.

“The truth is, Jere is supposed to have been decorated few days or maximum of a month after taking over the mantle of leadership from Muhammad Babandede. Decorating the CGI with his full rank will bring sanity to the system, as it’s now, you cant even differentiate him from his Deputies, as they all wears the same rank and seeing his colleagues in other sister Agencies wearing their complete ranks, especially the newly promoted CG Fire service, makes him inferior among them, this is so disheartening to me. The Minister should have decorated the CGI Jere alongside the newly appointed CG Federal Fire Service, on receipt of the letter from the presidency regarding Jere’s tenure elongation.

“Referring to the State House letter number SH/COS/42/3/A/128, dated 22/4/22, which is enough to decorate Mr Jere, weather confirmed or on acting capacity, the status of acting doesn’t prevent him from wearing his complete Rank this I know, with refence to former CGI RB Musa, who was decorated with his complete rank less than 2 weeks of taking over from the then CGI Rose Uzoma, a rank he wore throughout his 5 months as acting CGI and many more instances in the police and other sister organisations, Jere shouldn’t be exceptional please,” he advised.

Amb Coomassie urges the Minister of Interior and others to wade in to end this injustice against the person of acting CGI Jere.

“I employ the God-fearing Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the leadership of Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire & Immigration Board to please do the needful to boost the morale of CG Jere in commanding maximum respect in his organisation and saving the image of the Service,” he concluded.
