Chelsea have identified Lens right-back, Jonathan Clauss as their new target to compete with Reece James in that position.
Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel is looking to bolster and add new faces, especially in the defence ahead of the new season.
The Blues have watched the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave Stamford Bridge, while both Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso could also leave.
French newspaper, La Voix du Nord reports that the Blues are targeting Clauss if Azpilicueta departs.
According to the report, Chelsea have been monitoring Clauss’ performances in Ligue 1.
His club, Lens, are said to be open to selling the 29-year-old if their €10 million (£8.5m) valuation is met.
Clauss was Lens’ standout performer in Ligue 1 last season, providing 11 assists and scoring five goals during the campaign.
He was also named in Ligue 1’s Team of the Season, which also included Marquinhos, William Saliba and Kylian Mbappe.
The French star has just one year remaining on his contract with Lens and has no plans to extend his current deal.
