The International Cricket Council (ICC) has requested Bangladesh to tour India to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, maintaining its firm position, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has once again urged that Bangladesh’s matches be held outside India, citing security concerns.
The BCB disclosed this information in a press release on Tuesday following discussions held via video conference between the BCB and the ICC.
According to the press release, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, Vice Presidents Md. Sakhawat Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen, and Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury took part in the meeting on behalf of the BCB.
The statement said that the BCB reiterated its stance against touring India due to security risks and called on the ICC to consider hosting Bangladesh’s matches outside India.
Highlighting that the tournament schedule has already been announced, the ICC requested the BCB to reconsider its position. However, the BCB remained unchanged in its decision. Both parties agreed to continue discussions in an effort to find a solution.
In the press release, the BCB stated that it is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its players, officials, and staff, and that it will continue constructive engagement with the ICC on the matter.
