Arsenal are confident of signing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber for their manager Mikel Arteta this summer.
The Gunners, despite seeing their opening offer of £30 million rejected by Ajax, are set to return with an improved bid and are confident of agreeing on a fee with the Dutch giants for Timber’s signature.
Timber has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal’s Premier League rival Manchester United over the last 12 months and is coveted by his former manager Erik ten Hag.
Speculation that Man United were ready to make a renewed effort to sign Timber intensified earlier this month when the Netherlands international was spotted attending the all-Manchester FA Cup final at Wembley a few weeks ago.
According to De Telegraaf, Timber was in London with his agent to conduct negotiations with Arsenal over a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The report added that Timber prefers a move to the North London club, and he is keen to leave Ajax this summer.
