Arsenal close to securing first January transfer

Arsenal are on the verge of securing their first departure in the ongoing January transfer window.

The Gunners are keen to raise funds to recruit a new striker for their manager, Mikel Arteta, this month.

Arteta is said to have made Brentford’s Ivan Toney his number-one target for Arsenal as he looks to keep pace with Liverpool and Manchester City amid the Premier League title race this term.

Arteta’s side are also believed to have ‘strong interest’ in signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and are considering making a move for Ajax’s Jorrel Hato.

Arsenal are at the moment in a tight spot regarding profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

This may limit their activity in the January transfer window unless they can offload some players.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal may be about to secure their first sale, with growing transfer interest in Mohamed Elneny.

The report added that Turkish clubs, Trabzonspor and Besiktas, have already launched offers for the Egypt international, which the Premier League North London club are currently considering.

Elneny has made a total of four appearances for Arsenal this season.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order of Arteta’s choice of midfielders at Emirates.
