2027 election is the last time I am contesting to be president: Atiku

‎Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar declared that the 2027 presidential election will be his last outing.

‎Atiku, who has been contesting to be president of Nigeria since 1992, disclosed this during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday.

‎Asked why Nigerians should vote for him after several attempts, considering his age, the ex-Vice President said Nigeria has a leadership problem, adding that he represents the past and the future of Nigeria.

‎“Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing,” Atiku had said while responding to one of the questions thrown at him.

‎Atiku also recommended leadership training for young Nigerians, adding that the country needs it.

‎African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said he remains committed to Nigeria but acknowledged that time and political realities would make 2027 his last shot.

‎The former presidential candidate emphasized the need for unity within the opposition, urging party leaders and stakeholders to put aside personal ambitions and work towards building a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎Atiku also expressed concern over the current state of the nation, pointing to economic challenges, insecurity, and governance issues as reasons he believes experienced leadership is urgently needed.

‎He maintained that Nigeria requires bold reforms and inclusive policies to unlock its full potential.

‎Atiku, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, has been a consistent contender in Nigeria’s presidential elections, making him one of the most recognizable figures in the country’s democratic journey.
