A total of 25 farmers, including both men and women, received training on sustainable agriculture under an initiative led by Amra Kaj Kory (AKK), a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Bangladesh.
The training program “Ecological Farming for Safe Vegetable Production and Marketing in Char Areas,” was organized as part of the Rural Microenterprise Transformation Project (RMTP). Farmers from Charbhadrasan upazila and Gazirtek and Decreer Char unions of Faridpur Sadar upazila participated in the program.
The event was held on Thursday, August 7, at AKK’s head office in Tepakhola, Faridpur. It aimed to build the capacity of lead farmers in ecological farming methods.
Speaking at the event, project consultant Md. Mizanur Rahman emphasized that the goal of the initiative is to reduce production costs, lower carbon emissions, and promote the adoption of environmentally sustainable technologies in agriculture.
AKK Executive Director M. A. Jalil noted that ecological farming allows vegetables to be produced without harmful chemicals, ensuring a safer food supply while preserving soil and the environment.
As part of the program, a selected farmer received a demonstration grant cheque to set up a small-scale net house for ecological vegetable farming.
M. A. Jalil, Executive Director of AKK, was present as the chief guest. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Consultant of the RMTP project, attended as special guest. Also Present were M. A. Kuddus Miah, Value Chain Facilitator; Md. Fuad Hossain, Project Coordinator; and Mahbub Hasan Tutul, Internal Auditor of AKK, along with other project officials.
At the end of the training, one selected farmer received a demonstration grant cheque to establish a small-scale net house for safe vegetable cultivation.
According to project officials, the goal of the initiative is to reduce farming costs to near zero, minimize carbon emissions, and promote sustainable, eco-friendly agricultural practices.
The sub-project is being implemented by Amra Kaj Kory (AKK) with funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and DANIDA, and with technical assistance from the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
