‎The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf has ordered all his political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions by March 31.

‎Yusuf in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa said the resignation directive to all the state appointees is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

‎The governor’s order conveyed through an official circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, highlighted the need for strict adherence to the Electoral Act.

‎According to the circular, the governor’s directive also aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026.

‎The Act curbs the participation of public office holders across states of the country in partisan political activities.

‎It also explained that the action is aimed at promoting neutrality, accountability and integrity in the public service and ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants contesting at the polls.

‎“Political appointees who intend to contest in the forthcoming elections are required to resign or retire, as applicable, on or before Tuesday, March 31, 2026,” Tofa said in the statement.

‎In addition, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been directed to publicly convey the content of the circular and ensure full compliance by staff and those affected.
