Wike supported my governorship ambition in 2019 with thousands of dollars – Dino Melaye

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant in the upcoming governorship primary in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye has revealed that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was his biggest sponsor when he vied for the same office in 2019.

Melaye said Wike supported his ambition financially to the tune of hundreds of thousands of Dollars.

The former Senator disclosed this while reacting to the Rivers Governor’s recent threat that he would not support the PDP in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship poll if the party field him as its candidate.

Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Melaye said Wike did not only support his primary election financially but also provided his private jet to move him to Kogi on the day of the primaries.

He said, “It is pathetic that Wike had that press briefing this morning, definitely with Rivers State taxpayers’ money. And that has now become a routine.

“But when I ran for governorship in 2019, Governor Wike was my biggest sponsor. Governor Wike was my biggest supporter to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. He did not just support my primaries, Wike provided his private jet to drop me in Kogi at Obajana airstrip on the day of my primaries.

“And he was calling me every minute to find out: ‘Where are we? Have we succeeded?’. So, this means that Wike saw something in me in 2019 when he supported me. He knew I was gubernatorial material. He knew I was fit to be governor. Hence, his investment or support, as the case may be.”
