Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered arms, ammunition and other items during a night operation in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

‎The acting spokesman for the operation, Yusuf Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

‎Mohammed said the operation was conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as part of efforts to prevent criminal elements from operating freely within the area.

‎He said troops encountered and arrested the two suspects at about 1:50 a.m. while conducting a patrol in the area.

‎The suspects were identified as Jabiru Hassan, 25, and Umaru Bello, 23, both reportedly from Ilela village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

‎According to the statement, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated Dane gun, two rifle magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 cartridges.

‎Other items recovered included a motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets, a mobile phone, two MP3 players, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, a handbag and N44,500 in cash.

‎Mohammed said preliminary examination of the recovered mobile phone revealed photographs and video materials considered potentially incriminating and of intelligence value.

‎He said the materials were being further verified and analysed by relevant authorities to establish their significance and possible links to terrorist activities in the area.
