‘Tinubu has all it takes to secure Nigeria’: FG tells Nigerians to remain calm amid Trump’s threat

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to remain calm in the face of the diplomatic spat between the United States and the country.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this in Dutse, Jigawa State, during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Jigawa, His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has all it takes to secure Nigeria from destabilising elements, as well as mend any cracks in our nation’s relationship with our international friends and partners, as such, Nigerians should please remain calm.”

The Minister is in Jigawa state to attend the North West 2025 Youth Pally and the Presentation of the Achievements of President Tinubu after two years in office.

The reassurance was made available by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Rabiu Ibrahim, on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Recall that President Trump recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over what he described as an ongoing Christian genocide in the country.

He further threatened to unleash US forces on Nigeria if the federal government did not take urgent steps to stop the killings.

In a previous statement, the Nigerian government rejected U.S. designation, insisting that “the Nigerian government does not condone any form of religious persecution and remains committed to protecting all citizens regardless of faith.”

The designation and the subsequent military threat have since ignited debates about insecurity and religious tensions in the country. Some supported the move by the US, while others say there is no sign of genocide against the Christians in the country.
