President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the enlistment of 1,000 youths from Plateau State to serve as forest guards, a move aimed at improving security in the region.
The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday during an event held in honour of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shettima explained that the recruitment is intended to boost safety in rural communities, particularly those that have been affected by violent clashes between farmers and herders.
“The president has given the go-ahead for 1,000 youths to be employed as forest guards across Plateau. The dividends of democracy will begin to be felt within the next three weeks,” Shettima said.
He also called on residents to cooperate with the federal government’s security initiatives and assured that more development projects would follow to benefit the state.
