Thank you – Manchester United say as another midfielder leaves Old Trafford after 20 years

Manchester midfielder Jesse Lingard has said his goodbye to the club and their supporters as he departs Old Trafford.

The player, who has spent over two decades in his boyhood club, admits it has been an emotional few weeks as he comes to terms with leaving.

The 29-year-old’s contract expires this month and the England international is looking for a new permanent club for the first time since he was just seven years old.

He made 232 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions and has a lot of people to thank, including the different managers that met him at the club, backroom staff, the cleaners, cooks, fellow players and every other person, who according to him, had made an impact on his life.

Lingard wrote on Instagram: “Born and bred a red. Over the last few weeks I’ve been emotional leaving a club that is family…

‘After 22 years I’ve had so many special memories and moments that I will cherish forever…

“It’s been emotional but to end on a high which has been your favourite celebration? Lots of love jlingz.”

Announcing his departure, Manchester United’s statement read: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career.”
