Tambuwal Relaxes Curfew in Sokoto

The Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Monday relaxed the 24 hours curfew imposed on Sokoto metropolis as a result of protest by the irate Muslim youth in the state.

The youth among other demanded the released of those arrested in connection with the killing of Deborah Samuel , they protested to Sultan palace stressing that his condemnation on the killing is anti Islam.

In a statement by the commissioner of information in the State Isa Bajini Galadanchi said the relaxation is in sequel to the briefing by the Security Chiefs in the State,

He added that the State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has ordered the relaxation of the 24 hour curfew in force in Sokoto metropolis

He explained that the revised curfew will now be from dusk to dawn in Sokoto township. This is with a view to afford people the window to pursue their legitimate businesses and other means of livelihood.

The Government, however, advised people to maintain peace in this regard, as it will not condone any breach of law and order in the State

In another development the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Sokoto state has debunked a video making around in social media portraying one Anita Josephine Ogonna as a serving corp member caught in the web of unrest that engulfed Sokoto recently .

In a statement by the scheme public relations officer in the state Sani Idris said the video is untrue and it is the imagination of the initiators .

He noted that NYSC management hereby states that the said video which has gone virile is baseless and designed by mischief makers to create fear in the mind of Corps Members, parents and indeed the general public.

He further said while the management sympathised with those that have been affected by the unfortunate incident that played out in the State, it wishes to clarify that those captured in the said video are not Corps Members.

He urged the general public to disregard the video in circulation.

He maintained that the management and indeed the relevant NYSC Officers are in constant touch with Corps Members who have been instructed to remain vigilant and be at home, as long as the curfew last

He disclosed that the security and welfare of Corps Members remain a cardinal policy thrust of the Scheme, and NYSC management, Sokoto State shall never shirk its responsibility of ensuring that no Corps Member is harmed .
