Synod of the Diocese of Lokoja Anglican Communion lauds kogi govt’s efforts on health, education

… expresses grave concern over the unfolding political scenario in the state

The Synod of the Diocese of Lokoja Anglican Communion in session, has expressed delight with the continual attention given by Kogi State Government in the health and educational sectors, especially with the recently approval of a state University in Okun land.

This was part of the communique issued at the end of the second session of the tenth Synod of the Diocese of Lokoja, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

The session with the theme ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, however expresses grave concern over the unfolding political scenario in the state, expressing shock at the increasing bigotry and hard lines of division that now pervades the state.

The Synod also lamented the polarization of the state political environment along religious and ethnic lines.

“The Synod express delight with the continual attention given by Kogi State Government in the health and educational sectors, especially with recently the happy news of the approval of a state university in Okun land, urging that the strides should be sustained.

“The Synod, however, expresses grave concern over the unfolding political scenario in the state, expressing shock at the increasing bigotry and hard lines of division that now pervades the state.

“The Synod also lamented the polarization of the state political environment along religious and ethnic lines.

The Synod emphasizes the urgent need for political leaders to prioritize unity and bridge the growing divide among the people and called for immediate action to foster dialogue and understanding, while promoting a sense of shared identity and common purpose within the state.

“The Synod appealed to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello as the chief security officer of the State to do all in his power to mobilise the security apparatus in the state to stem the tide of escalating insecurity and to ensure level playing ground and safety in the state before and beyond the election period.

“The Synod congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shetima for their victory at the polls, despite the outcry that trailed the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“The Synod noted that the nation’s integrity is undergoing much scrutiny and expressed hope that it would not be in tatters soon, adding that “We see now that our biometrics can be faked – as we saw in the case of the impersonation of one of the presidential candidates earlier this year or even the increasing cases of artificial intelligence impersonating people”.

“The Synod noted further that the nation’s judiciary is on trial whatever the outcome of the election tribunals, adding that the nation and indeed the entire world are watching with keen interest.

The Synod stressed that “we have loud voices defending the indefensible, the reality is that any country dealing with us now must do so with caution. Our export products have to be subjected to quality controls not because we are lazy but because we want an easy way out.

“It is tragic how many respectable people have now lent their voices to endorse evil and mediocrity, believing that the end justifies the means.

”The Synod sought for divine intervention and guidance to help the Kogi people overcome their challenges and for the nation as a whole to find unity and strength during these difficult times while emphasizing the importance of collective prayers and support in fostering resilience and hope amidst adversity. 

The second session of the Tenth synod of the Diocese of Lokoja Anglican Communion was held from 20th July 2023 to 23red July 2023 at St Luke’s Anglican Church Adankolo, Lokoja with His Grace The Most Rev’d Emmanuel A. S Egbunu, Ph. D presiding.

The Synod resolved in keeping with this year’s theme ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, (Joshua 24:14-15) that all members and their households would be more committed in serving the Lord.
