Suu Kyi was sentenced to another 3 years by Myanmar’s junta government

A court in Myanmar’s ruling military junta has sentenced ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi to another three years in prison on bribery charges.

At least 18 charges have been brought against the pro-democracy leader, including bribery and violation of election laws.

Suu Kyi’s total maximum sentence on these charges could be up to 190 years. But Suu Kyi has denied any wrongdoing.

Myanmar’s military overthrew the elected government led by Suu Kyi in a coup on February 1 last year.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Suu Kyi has been imprisoned ever since. Suu Kyi and her party’s top leaders were arrested and charged one after another.

He is being tried behind closed doors at a special military junta court in Myanmar’s capital, Nay Pyi Taw. The media is not informed about the trial process.
Suu Kyi’s lawyers are also barred from communicating with the media and the general public.

The 77-year-old leader has been sentenced to prison on a number of charges, including incitement against the military junta, violation of coronavirus restrictions, illegal use of walkie-talkies and bribery.
