Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has recorded another victory at the Supreme Court with the dismissal of the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and its governorship candidate, Kenneth Gbagi for lacking in merit.
In a unanimous judgment on Friday, the apex court dismissed all grounds and allegations raised against the March 18 last year gubernatorial poll.
Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, who delivered the lead judgment, said the allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Oborevwori was not qualified for the election was laughable as there was no evidence in support of the allegations.
Justice Lawal rejected the claim that the election was invalid and that the governor was not duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast at the poll.
In another judgment in an appeal by the Labour Party, LP, and its governorship candidate, Ken Pela, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal for being frivolous and lacking in merit.
Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, who delivered the lead judgment, said that the petition was worthless as the appellants could not establish any of their allegations.
Justice Aba-Aji subsequently dismissed the petition in its entirety.
By the latest development, all the three appeals lodged by the APC, SDP and LP have been thrown away for lack of merit.
