The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), has proposed the establishment of a Commission for Polytechnics.
SSANIP made the observation in a communique at the end of its General Executive Council meeting held in Abuja, jointly signed by its President and the Secretary, Adebanjo Ogunsipe and Hussaini Yusuf Gwandu, respectively.
The association urged the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to set up the Polytechnics Commission.
It opined that polytechnics would be better supervised and regulated under the commission.
The communique explained that the meeting discussed the non-payment of 30 months’ half salary arrears and haphazard payment of salaries in State polytechnics.
The meeting noted the determination of the Federal Government to release N15bn as revitalization fund for polytechnics, saying that it is a step in the right direction.
According to the communique, “Council-in-Session expressed its displeasure at the continued non-release of the new scheme and conditions of service document by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF).”
