Skincare business a goldmine, says skin therapist Mimi Whyte Femi

The reason the cosmetics and personal care industry globally is considered a goldmine has been explained by one of the leading stakeholders of the skincare industry in Nigeria, Mimi Whyte Femi, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Skin Therapy Beauty and Spa.

Noting that the global beauty industry has an annual turnover of US$400 billion and that a research report had valued Nigeria’s cosmetic industry at $3.4 billion, she claimed the industry is powered by its investor-friendly metrics.

The remark came from her during the discount sales promo staged to mark the 10th anniversary of her skincare store and aesthetic spa.

Mimi Whyte Femi further explained that many people do not see the opportunities in the industry because of their ignorance of the dynamics of skincare treatment.
“For instance, I’m an internationally licensed aesthetician and skin therapist and what I do is consulting for clients on what products or treatment services they need to achieve healthy and glowing skin,” she explained.

Speaking further, she clarified that her Skin Therapy Beauty and Spa is an aesthetic spa that researches and manufactures skincare products while also offering diverse treatment services for different skin types.
“Our treatment help to treat and tone skin, and for the results, we have got the most sophisticated aesthetic machines in our spas,” she further disclosed.

Giving further education, she allowed that contrary to popular belief, taking care of the skin goes beyond bleaching.

“Taking care of the skin is a big deal and should not be viewed entirely as skin bleaching. At Skin Therapy Beauty and Spa, for example, we treat all forms of skin problems and these include stretch marks, uneven skin tone, acne, sun-damaged skin, burnt knuckles and chemically damaged skin. So, it is wrong to assume that those who seek skin treatments are after skin bleaching.”
